Driving test guides, rules and comparison help
Start with your situation: change an existing booking, understand a possible learner-to-learner swap, compare other options or check the safety rules.
Guidance is based on current GOV.UK and DVSA information. Always check the linked official source before changing a booking.
How to use these driving test resources
Choose the guide that matches the decision you need to make now. If you only want to move your own appointment, start with the date-change and booking-rules pages. If two learners may want each other’s appointments, read the swap rules before sharing any booking information. If you are comparing a cancellation service, public group or learner-matching service, check the safety and privacy guidance first.
Exchange Driving Tests is an independent learner-matching pilot. It does not access DVSA systems, scan for appointments, change bookings, sell test slots or guarantee a match. Any official booking action must be completed through the process DVSA currently provides.

Choose the route that fits your booking
Compare how services work before sharing personal information or paying a fee, then check guidance for your area.
Check the facts in your own appointment
Confirm the test centre, date, time, test type and any extra-time arrangement directly in your booking. Check how many changes you have left and whether the proposed date gives enough notice under the current rules. For car tests, also check which centres the booking service currently allows you to move to.
Rules and available options can change. Use the linked GOV.UK guidance as the final source, and do not rely on a screenshot, social post or old message when making a booking decision.
Protect your booking and identity
- ✓Never share your DVSA account password or email password.
- ✓Do not publish your licence number, booking reference or exact test time.
- ✓Do not pay another learner for a test appointment.
- ✓Confirm what a service stores, why it needs each field and how deletion works.
Use GOV.UK before you commit to a change
The guides in this hub explain the choices in plain language, but they are not a replacement for your live booking or current DVSA instructions. Use the official service to check or change your appointment, and use the official test-centre finder for current addresses, available test types and special instructions.
